Franny-Swann-memorial

Shared Residency with artist Cathryn Kemp
St Mary’s in the Castle Crypt. Hastings

‘I invited artist Franny Swann to complete my six-week residency at St Mary in the Castle Crypt, Hastings. Franny’s work and process are underpinned by notions of memory and memorial which weave through my own explorations in genealogy, temporal/corporeal ritual and femininity. It was with subtle grace that her Dead Moths Boxes found their own space within the crypt alongside my installation piece In Memorium. Two beautifully quiet museum cases containing tiny yet spellbinding drawings of dead insects and tubercular lungs completed the residency as if they had been there all along.’
